R. Joseph Peimer was born in 1875 in the town of Minsk. After serving as Chief Rabbi of Slutsk, Lithuania for many years R. Peimer immigrated to New York in 1925. Once in New York, the Slutsker Rav as he was known served as the recording secretary for the Degel Harabonim, a New York branch of the Knesset HaRabonim founded by R. Gavriel Zev Margolis of Boston, MA. The Degel Harabonim was founded by R. Jacob Eskolsky after a bitter dispute with the Agudath Harabonim over dietary policies and kashruth certification. R. Peimer passed away in 1938 and was buried in the Tear Drop Section of the New Mount Carmel Cemetery in Glendale (Queens), NY.
